Realizing the need to drink plenty of water daily, I usually have a special Weight Watchers insulated bottle filled with water with me most of the times which I fill with water from a water cooler so I can easily drink my daily quota of 8+ glasses of water. I even fill it up at night so if I wake up I have water there.

My questiions are:

1. How safe is it to drink water that has been standing around and
sometimes overnight?

2. When refilling the bottle with more water during the day, should I
discard the remaining water first? (I have been just adding to the
remaining water.)

3. Should I discard the water from the night before before putting in
new water?

4. How often does the bottle need to be washed since I am the only
one using the bottle?

5. What is the difference or advantages/disadvantages between
tap water, bottled water, BRITA filtered water and water from a
water cooler.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questioins. They have been on my mind for some time and decided to finally obtain some answers.

Genie

Yes.

It's a matter of choice. Obviously don't keep reusing the same glass over and over.

3. Should I discard the water from the night before before putting in
new water?

Isn't that the same question as #2?

4. How often does the bottle need to be washed since I am the only
one using the bottle?

Again, a matter of preference. I prefer to use my glass for the entire day or two.

5. What is the difference or advantages/disadvantages between
tap water, bottled water, BRITA filtered water and water from a
water cooler.

In most US localities the water from the tap contains less bacteria than bottled water. The BRITA type filters tend to filter out the compounds that give water a chlorine or metallic taste.

I think the safest thing for you to do is to use a bottle with a top. Put the top on when not in use. That will prevent any dust or allergens from getting into your water.

I work in the hospital so I tend to be fanatic about covering my water. But I don't think you are going to get M.R.S.A Pneumonia from drinking water at home.
