Hello! My brother has stuttering problem. He tried several speech therapies but with no significant improvement. Actually, I notice he speaks more slowly and has more control over his speech which makes his speech more fluently then before, but this is still not satisfactory. Is there a drug treatment for stuttering?
Hello! Drug introduction in the stuttering treatment should be considered very carefully. The drugs that are usually used are actually anti anxiety agents that are approved only for short-term treatment (not more then six to eight weeks). It is important to know than such drugs have a wide variety of side effects. Sometimes is beneficial to use the drug during the first few weeks of a stuttering therapy program and then reduce the dosages as the patient progresses in therapy. The effects of long-term use are unknown.
