Dull, sharp pain in my lower left abdomen

Hi, I am a 23 year old female and I have been having this dull sharp pain in my lower right abdomen off and on for about a year. There for a while I just thought it was gas pains because it isn't something that hurts me much at all. But lately I've been having it more often so it makes me think that it could maybe be more than just gas. I made an offhanded comment about it to my doctor when I went in for a check up and she told me it was probably just gas but at the time it hadn't been going on for very long. Am i just being paranoid or can someone tell me what they think about this?

You should see a doc with this complaint saying that it has been going on for over a year! It could be ovarian cysts that could hurt like that and an ultrasound may show what it is.
