Hi everyone

I started Duromine today. I did take it many years ago and experienced some pretty bad side effects that mostly related to personality changes. However, at the time I wasn't really aware of what I was doing. I lost about 30kg and was thrilled. Over the years, because of being bedridden and having illness (not related to the duromine or anything like that) I have put on weight again. I now weigh 82kg.

I asked my doctor who knows all about my medical condition and he was supportive about me taking Duromine (of course he would rather I did the weight loss without it but after a lot of talking we decided I would use it.) I do suffer from high blood pressure and am a little worried about that but I will be seen by my doc regularly.

What I did today (first day) was to take just half the capsule so the effects wouldn't be too bad. Has anyone tried doing it like this (i.e. just talking half a cap a day?) Did it work OK?

Now that I am a lot older (15 years older) and my husband will be on the lookout to see if my moods start to swing too much and I can stop them immediately, I'm not overly scared by the side effects but still am a little worried.

So, like I said above, my main question is has anyone tried just half a capsule and how did it go? Did you move onto a whole cap later?

I wish you all luck with your weight loss Smile

Sasha

Hi Sasha i think the halving of the capsule is not recommended pharmacists and doctors have told me about this before.

I just want to highlight to everyone that you should keep in mind that people are twice as likely to talk about a bad experience rather than a good one. When i was deciding if i wanted to give Duromine a go, i had a look at everyone's experiences with Duromine, and found myself getting really scared. I made a promise to myself that i would come back on here after a month and write about it, even if it was a good experience...so here i am!

I'm not obese, but really wanted to lose about 20kg...just to regain some confidence and make myself healthier. I tried lots of diets whilst exercising, but found that i didn't really have the self-control needed to stick them out.

I went on Duromine (40mg) for two months and lost the whole 20kg easily because it made me see eating as fuel for my body rather than something to pass the time. I stuck to about 800 calories per day and exerised at least 3 times a week for 1 hour doing high intensity cardio workouts.

In terms of any side-effects....the worst of it for me were headaches, dizziness and a dry mouth - but i'd like to highlight that headaches and dizziness usually occur whenever a person is losing weight quickly, it's not necessarily caused by Duromine. As i was taking the pill very early in the morning (5am), i'd then go back to sleep for about 2-3 hours and wake up feeling very refreshed. Due to taking it early on in the day, going to sleep at night was never a problem! My moods didn't change at all, and instead i found that i was more focussed at work.

Before being prescribed Duromine, i made sure that my GP checked out my blood pressure etc, and told me all the side effects.

I think it's important for people taking this medication to remember to make themselves eat, even if you're not hungry. If you don't eat, you can't expect it to work without you experiencing pretty nasty side-effects. And if you're not exercising, don't expect to keep the weight off!

Personally, i found Duromine to be magic and i just thought it was necessary to share my great experience to bring a bit more perspective to these discussions.

Good luck everyone and i wish you all an experience as good as mine!!!

I am on my 2nd week for duromine, the red + grey capsule. Last week on the 4th day of duromine I checked, I lost one kg! But.. Sigh.. Maybe it is bcuz of my eating pattern?? For the first few days I really did not have appetite, but I found myself weak, so forced myself to have a little. But now, I dont feel like my appetite is surpressed. I sometimes eat more than my usual portion (i binge on pastries ><") I havent checked my weight since the 4th day. Has anyone heard before that it makes our flesh flabbier?? I found my thighs flabbier than usual.. UGLY!!! Mad

My doctor prescribed me with Duromine and it is working great, with the side affect thing... i think that it relates souly to the person that is taking this drug as i have only had one side affect which is constipation, whereas the people above seemed to have suffered much worse side affects. I have an incredibly slow metabolism and i also use to be an over eater and i ate whenever i was bored, since taking Duromine this has all changed and now i only eat 3 whole meals a day and I don't have the "wanting" of food any more... ITS GREAT!!! (don't forget about exercise as well)

I started using Duromine 30s today. I felt like constantly moving all morning, now its the evening I feel sluggish but my eyes feel like they wont shut even if i tried. I am really anxious reading all this stuff on the net about the drug with what ppl have experience, I am a sucker for punishment!!!

Hi All...

Well there are so many stories on here.. So heres mine..

I went to the doctor about 6 months ago and got Duromine 30mg, i started taking it but wasnt following the instructions.. i wasnt eating or exercising and then we moved house and i couldnt find my pills..

Then after a big clean up yesterday i found them... Im coming to the end of my second day and im loving it.. no side effects.. maybe a dry mouth if that.. Im exercising and eating ... i have 1-2 meals a day with the 2 isowhey shakes for brekkie and lunch and i have so much energy.. i take duromine first thing in the morning and have found come night time i tend to sleep quite nicely.. im a late night person anyway so being awake till midnight is nothing new to me.. I play netball once a week and have training sessions with friends 3 times a week.. I only have 14 pills left but am planning on making a apptmnt with the doc in the next few days to get another subscription.. my main thing for wanting duromine is for weight loss but also to stop me snacking and binging on those late afternoon and night snacks.. thats my weak time. Anyways.. ill keep you posted with the progress but i say if youve spoken to your doc and had all the checks then try it.. if you experience bad things then stop.. at least then you will know its not for you...

Shall keep ya posted !

Hi All,

I've just started taking duromine, 30mg. Am on my 2nd day now. I've been feeling a mix of things. I slept fine last night, but woke up a bit earlier than usual. Not craving for food or anything like that.

I haven't been exercising though, should I consider including some exercise? I'm not overwhelmed with energy like what I've read with what some people have experienced but I'm not exhausted either. I've got 10kgs to lose and 30 pills to do this.

Not sure what my point is here but I guess I just wanna know if someone out there was trying to lose the same amount of weight and how long it took them? I'm 151cm and 65kgs. too much might I add!

This is day 6 for me in taking Duromine 40mg. I have 3 children and all ways weighed around 80kg i now way 98kg and want to get down to 75kg. I went to the Dr and asked to go on it , as i had heard of the stories and hope it would get me on my way were then i can continue with the healthy eating and some exercise.
I do eat healthy foods but due to the increased weight i don't move as much as i should , and hope with shedding a bit that will become easy as i was a very acctive person.
I am wanting oi loose this by xmas ( that is my goal ). I have got the dry mouth but drinking more water has helped and not a bad thing either, i can handle the awake time but would love to be asleep before 4am which is the time i finally get to sleep but to wake at 6am and feel fine ( amazing ). I guess i get through th day but have not had to rush of energy that some people have had ( i would love that as then my house may look alittle tidier .. lol ).

I have spoken to the doctor and she has said that when i reach my goal weight i will stop , it will totaly be out of my system in 6 weeks , as my husband and i will try for baby number 4 , i am doing this for me to be where i was before the children but also to be slimmer for when we try for amother baby as it will make it easier on my body to have lost the weight.

I am still feeling great with my loss of 2.6kg so far, more to shed but on my way.

Hey everyone. I was on duromine 30mg for about 6 months from July 07 - January 08. I lost 22kilos in total. I experienced the side effects but they were worth it. Since I had reached below my goal weight I stopped taking it, but due to a long period of inactivity I gained a couple of kilos back. I went to my new doctor for something unrelated, and he has put me back on Duromine but the 40mg dosage. Has anyone tried both the 30mg and 40mg? Is there much difference? I also dont understnad why I was put on a higher dosage this time.. when i first went on duromine i weighed 84kilos which was considered obese for my height. I got down to 62 kilos, but am currently 68 kilos. Why would i be put on a higher doage when I need to only lose 3 kilos?
