I was told it was safe?!
Now years later, in 2004, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension. I was told by the Consultant that it was caused through taking Duromine.
Pulmonary Hypertension is high blood pressure in the lungs and there is NO CURE, IN FACT IT IS A TERMINAL ILLNESS. WITH NO CURE.
Also since then I have developed high blood pressure, diabetes, diverticulitis, asthma and COPD. All these are believed to have been caused by Duromine.
They do act like the 'speed' which is a controlled drug. I haven't taken 'speed' but have been told the affects are similar.
Therefore I advise that no one takes this medication.

Hello Lulu...today is the first day on duromine and of course, i've been reading about it a lot... as i read...the label says that Phentermine, which is the main ingredient of Duromine.
Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine, with anoretic activity of animal models. It's the appetite suppression, and it increases the heart rate and force of contraction.
Phentermine it's released on your body as soon as the gastrointestinal fluids get in contact with it... Absortion of Phentermine is almost complete...aprox 70-80% of oral dose is excreted unchanged in the urine, and the remainder is metabolised in the liver.
IF and only IF you combine Phentermine with other substances for weight loss like fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine, it's dangerous indeed. It can cause pulmonary hypertesion, which is what you got. Are you sure you didn't take other weight loss pills with Duromine? Perhaps, since you said it was prescribed back in the '70s, it might have had other complex or substances. I have around 5 friends who have been taking Duromine, and it have been nothing but success... and I've seen the difference...
I'm not really a "pill person", I rather work my heads off at the gym, but now I'm convinced and I'm taking it too...
Today i left half of my favorite pasta at the restaurant at dinner because I was sooooo full! And I only had a small breakfast and 1/4 of grilled chicken for lunch...
For those who are taking Duromine...DRINK A LOT OF WATER...that's the secret... about drinking, what my friends do is not take the pill when they're drinking, but I don't think that's very wise... please talk to your doctor about this subject and let me know, since I drink occasionally every other weekend...
thank you very much |

| Hi! This is my 1st day taking duromine and i have already lost 2kg! Thats because I couldn't eat all day. At lunch i forced myself to eat but couldn't, and when i saw a fried curry puff i was so tempted ! but after having the 1st bite, i was instantly full! This duromine is amazing! Its helped me a lot with controlling my carb cravings particularly the afternoon pick me ups - the great thing is, I don't feel weak without the food (of which normally i would) i guess it's the amphetamine part of the drug - i am feeling ridiculously happy all day, as if i`m floating on air and its giving me this special kind of energy ... plus i`m feeling full with all the water i`m drinking (duromine does make me kindda thirsty )..so instead of craving for carbs, i am craving for water! I hope this drug will have a lasting effect |

Hi everyone
I started Duromine today. I did take it many years ago and experienced some pretty bad side effects that mostly related to personality changes. However, at the time I wasn't really aware of what I was doing. I lost about 30kg and was thrilled. Over the years, because of being bedridden and having illness (not related to the duromine or anything like that) I have put on weight again. I now weigh 82kg.
I asked my doctor who knows all about my medical condition and he was supportive about me taking Duromine (of course he would rather I did the weight loss without it but after a lot of talking we decided I would use it.) I do suffer from high blood pressure and am a little worried about that but I will be seen by my doc regularly.
What I did today (first day) was to take just half the capsule so the effects wouldn't be too bad. Has anyone tried doing it like this (i.e. just talking half a cap a day?) Did it work OK?
Now that I am a lot older (15 years older) and my husband will be on the lookout to see if my moods start to swing too much and I can stop them immediately, I'm not overly scared by the side effects but still am a little worried.
So, like I said above, my main question is has anyone tried just half a capsule and how did it go? Did you move onto a whole cap later?
I wish you all luck with your weight loss
