My sister is 32 and recently she had problems with her pregnancy. The doctor told her that she has a case of ectopic pregnancy. I would like to know all there is to know about this condition. Thanks
In an ectopic pregnancy, a fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus. The egg settles in the fallopian tubes more than 95% of the time and this is why ectopic pregnancies are commonly called "tubal pregnancies." Ectopic pregnancy can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms are similar to those of a normal early pregnancy. These can include missed periods, breast tenderness, nausea, vomiting, or frequent urination, however, the pain is usually the first red flag. An ectopic pregnancy results from a fertilized egg's inability to work its way quickly enough down the fallopian tube into the uterus and an infection or inflammation of the tube may have partially or entirely blocked it. An early ectopic pregnancy can sometimes be treated with an injection of methotrexate. This dissolves the fertilized egg and allows your body to reabsorb it. If the pregnancy is further along, a surgery is needed to remove the abnormal pregnancy.
