Hi, I suffer from cystitis, and I was advised to take Elminor. How long does it take to see improvement and get back normal function of urination?

Elmiron is commercial name for pentosan polysulfate sodium. It ‘s function is to restore a damaged, thin, or "leaky" bladder surface. Surface of bladder wall is protected from bacteria and irritating substances in urine, by layer of glycosaminoglycans or GAG layer. It is believed that Elmiron acts as a synthetic GAG layer, protecting the bladder wall. Recommended dose is for cystitis patients 100 mg of Elmiron three times a day. Treatment takes six months, andafter four months of treatment some improvement may be noticed. At first you will perceive loss of pain, and after a few more months frequency of urination will decrease.
