Hi, my teenage daughter is always sleepy. I don’t know how to wake her up in the morning, and she is tired during whole day. Is it normal in puberty to need more sleep?

Hi, excessive sleepiness is a very common complaint, also seen in children. It influences significantly a person's ability to function. Obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and sleep deprivation are common causes of increased need for sleep. This syndrome has been shown to significantly decrease memory and concentration, leading to lower success in school. If not noticed and left untreated it can leave catastrophic consequences. You need to wake up your daughter every day at the same time, to make her get some everyday routine. it will not be easy, but in time it would get easier and easier.

does eating make her more awake? and has she gained any large amount of weight in the past 4 or 5 years? My friend has Narcolepsy and thats what happened to her around that age, you might want to take her to a GOOD pediatrition (not sure if thats spelt right) because its not common at all and its not even a recognised disease in Australia. (my friend was put down as having adhd because they take the same medication) but be aware that the medication for narcolepsy is a form of amphetamine (the substance that speed, ice and a number of other illicit drugs are related with) and it causes the same types of sicknesses and symptoms as somone thats been illicitly overdosing or taking it for too long. my friend takes 7 tablets of it a day, and to get past the irritability, mild psychosis(its VERY rare) and nausia by sleeping for an hour after she takes her medication.
you should get it checked out though because Im pretty sure it can get worse. The News did a thing on them and got the few people with narc in australia together and one of them sleeps for 18 hours a day and thats with medication.

Making someone sleep 1 ealy day per week is worse than goign to sleep lte all of the time! For example if these where the bedtime routein 10 pm 10 pm 10 pm 8 pm 10 pm 10 pm they woudl be very tied of the day after going to sleep at 8 pm adn sometimes the day after that as it distubres the iner clock or something like that XD Just try to make them go to sleep at the same time each day and wake up at the same time each day it normaly takes 1 week for the rouein to settle in so if you see no improvment in the first 3 days its because it hasent had time.
