What value of triglycerides in blood is considered as extremely high and dangerous? How long does it usually take for increased level to lower on normal? Should I just avoid fatty foods or there is certain food that helps fight triglycerides? I work a lot and spend sometimes more that 6-7 hours in my car, so very often don’t have time to eat home made meals. What would you suggest me to do to decrease my triglycerides? Thanks.

Very high level of triglycerides is higher than 500mg/dl and less than 150 is considered as normal. Factors that usually lead to increased triglycerides are overweight, physical inactivity, smoking, high carbohydrate intake, some medications like beta blockers, diuretics and cortisone. So, do not restrict intake of fats, but replace saturated fats with omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fatty fish and flax seeds. Elevated triglycerides point toward diabetes, pancreatitis, cardiovascular diseases and I guess that you need no more warnings.
