Birth control patch was first released on sale back in 2002 and more than 4 million women have used it since. The number will definitely decrease after revealing the number of women who have suffered severe side effect like blood cloths. What is more, it has been announced that dozen women have died from blood clots believed to be related to the birth-control patch, and dozens more survived strokes and other clot-related problems.

Birth control patches are considered to be more dangerous that the regular birth control pills as they the hormones that are being delivered with the patch go directly to the blood stream and there fore rise the levels of the hormones that may harm the body.
A new warning says that the women using the patch are exposed to 60 % more estrogen than those using typical birth control pills where the pills are firstly digested. In this process, about half of the estrogen dose is lost.

Women are advised to avoid the patches until they are redesigned. However, this is not where the story ends. Lawsuits have been filed by families of women who died or suffered blood clots while using the patch, and more lawsuits are planned.
