After reading all this, i'm really fearful now.
Recently my little cousin who is three had an ear infection because I had taken him to the lake.
And only four days later i started to hear the heart beat noise in my right ear, but it didn't last long, now it's back... =( Also I've been having head-aches but I just thought it was because of the heat. . .
But reading around this thread, i hope its an ear infection or nothing at all.
And I pray to god, i'll be all right.

but the heart beat noise is so annoyingg.

I had this same heartbeat problem in my ear. I checked all the basics like blood pressure and a few others, and that was ok. Since it wasn't anything *serious* I waited to see if it would pass. After 3 weeks it didn't go away and I was going crazy with this constant sound in my ear.

I went to the doctor yesterday. She said that my sinuses were acting up again. My Eustachian tubes had swollen, not allowing my ears to drain. This caused a backup of fluid behind my eardrum. Everytime blood went through my Carotid Artery, the sound was transferred through the excess backup fluid, to my eardrum, causing the whoosh whoosh.

She put me on a 6 day regiment of Prednisone to reduce the swelling of my Eustachian tubes, and a 6 day regiment of Allegra to stop the fluid production from my sinuses, which will help the Eustachian tubes heal.

The first day I had to take a very heavy dose of Prednisone, and as the 6 days progress, you take 1 less pill per day. I would just like to say that I woke up this morning with NO WHOOSH! WOOHOOOOOOOOOO!

i have had this problem for a while now and have suffered hearing problems all my life. My doctor has informed me that the whooshing i am hearing that coincides with my heartbeat is simply the sound of an artery that passes past the area on the way to the brain and is amplified simply by an infection of some kind

Hi,
I have just gotten this annoying "swoosh" sound 3 days ago and I think it is related to me stopping depression medications.Although I have stopped before with no such thing.I don't get headaches or ear pain(thank God)but I feel rather listless and tired,and even somewhat lightheaded.The swooshing sound doesn't seem to be in my ears..more like from the head,and seems to happen more when I move my head.Can this be related to a cold?I have had ear problems all my life but am concerned because I also had a triple bypass a few years ago.Tried pushing on the neck..that doesn't do anything.I suppose I don't expect medical answers but I just wanted to surf the web and see what others said about this annoying symptom.

I definitely thought I was alone in this too! I don't even remember when it started, but I'm estimating about 4-5 years ago. I'm only 21.

I think, at least for me, a lot has to do with my scoliosis in my back. Pressure change might be another because it pretty much only happens whenever I go to bed, which is in my basement. The heart beat is only in my left ear, and it has been that way for the past few years! It's obnoxious and sometimes it's hard getting to sleep..

I guess if there is no remedy for this, I keep myself sane by being thankful that I don't have anything else to worry about - besides my scoliosis.

Hi Everyone! I am a 34 year old female who is 5 weeks pregnant. I have had this constant beating in my left ear all evening and it's driving me crazy. I've read all the postings and I fit the bill for a lot of the symptoms. I have High Blood Pressure. I also have Sinus problems. I was just diagonosed 4 days ago with a Sinus infection and now the beating of my heart is in full swing in my ear. I kept checking my BP and thought I would come out to the web to see if anything popped up. Wow. I guess it's really not that uncommon. It certainly is annoying though.

I have the same problem -whoosing heartbeat sound in ears/head for 5 months now. Started suddenly. I thought it was the ceiling fan making a noise at first - then it got louder. It is 24/7. The only time it got a little quieter & I thought it may be about to leave was when I had a antibotic shot & a "cocktail" shot (steriod) for fluid on my ears and throat infection.
That "quietness" only lasted a couple weeks after the shot. It was still there , just not as loud.

I hear it worse , when things are completly quiet, at night, first thing in the morning and when I bend over. At night I have to prop up higher to be able to sleep. Flat it seems louder and my head sometimes hurts or feels full.
I've had a CT (normal) & MRI - My neurologist said I may have to live with it. He did say I could have a lumbar puncture if I want to check and see it it is Cranial Hypertention. I think I'm going to put up with it awhile longer before I do that.

I really wish I knew what was causing this.
One poster here mentioned gaining or losing wt. fast. I did lose 20 lbs fairly fast - - but now I've gained it back.

I am an RN and have dealt with this problem off and on for the last 10 years. Usually, the heartbeat in my left ear will come, stay a few weeks, then leave. This time it has hit with a vengence. Started the beginning of May and hasn't gone away since. Have seen ENT for this problem off and on over the years to no avail. He said beating is most likely an artery pulsating by my ear drum. Went to hearing institute years ago where they ran tests, etc. Dx'd with tinnitus. Does help if you will eat low sodium diet (2000 mg per day) and stay out of foods that you may be intolerant of. It is so bad this time that I am starting to have vertigo where the room spins and feel queasy. I feel as if I am going insane and have decided I cannot live this way. I am going to the doctor (my GP) and demand a CT scan of my head and have my ears checked AGAIN. Guess I will have to suck it up and try the steroids (which I can't stand because they make me so nervous) and an antibiotic instead of trying to "ride it out" as it has stayed so long this time. I am also going to a TMJ specialist as I wonder if that isn't what may be the root cause of it. I use a combination of naturalpathic methods and modern medication to help treat my health issues. I have an inherited heart condition and am concerned that something could be going on there, too, since I have read this blog site. Sorry to go on so long but don't feel so alone now after reading how many people have this issue. Good luck to you and everyone else. Will let you know what I find out this time.

I went to my GP about the heartbeat/whooshing sound in my ears and he said it could be irritation associated with my Whooping Cough. He said it could take up to 10 weeks for it to go away, but it's still going strong (sometimes stronger) for a year now. I thought back and realized this isn't the first time I've had this symptom, but it's never been so constant or loud. Like most of you, it's worse when I lay down to go to bed; laying on one side or another usually helps to make it a little quieter. Also, I found that pressing on my neck just under my ear makes it stop temporarily. I've read that Eustacian tubes (the drainage tubes for your ears to your throat) can be irritated and blocked, or contrarily irritated and too dry and cause this symptom. When I get up in the morning, my ear canals are wet as well.

GP also told me that my ear drums did not look irritated, which would be the case if there was fluid behind them, or if there was an infection at that site.

I am 24, and have been experiencing this off and on (more on for the past year) for many years, so I don't associate it (very much) with the fact that I'm a smoker-- I started a couple years ago-- though this condition can be irritated or caused by smoking. This causes me much trouble with my hearing! Will post again when I know more!

I am 18 and I get this myself at night sometimes. It is normally after I have been laying on my ear in some way, such as having my arm under it at night. It only ever happens in my right ear. I don't think it's anything to worry about, I get it every week or so. I have been very stressed recently and I don't think that helps as it seems to happen more often, but... I think it's just one of them things. Normally for me it lasts about half an hour then goes away, although while it's there i'm thinking... What the hell is this?... Go away !... urgh... but it does eventually. I just found this thread by googling and after reading up a tiny bit.. it's gone already Smile
