Famvir to acyclovir 800 mg?

Hi! My girlfriend has all symptoms of a recurrent genital herpes outbreak. She is 19. Now she's using Famvir 250 mg 3 times a day. But her friend with same problem use acyclovir 800 mg 2 times a day. Should my girlfriend change her treatment and skip from Famvir to acyclovir 800 mg? What to do? Thanks!

If she doesn't feel any better after 7 days of using Famvir, she needs to change medication treatment. Recent studies have shown that shorter treatment therapies at higher doses may be more effective. I used Zovirax (acyclovir) 800 mg orally 3 times but only for 2 days, and it helped me a lot. Maybe your girlfriend can try this treatment. But, as you probably know some people with frequent recurrent outbreaks must take antiviral medication every day.
