if he's been told he needs dialysis, he's close or at End Stage Renal Disease.
Bottom line, it's either dialysis or a transplant...or death. A transplant will take a long time to set up so he's going to have to do dialysis for a little while.
In all honesty, dialysis isn't all that bad, especially if he complies with his diet and fluid intake. There may be nausea for a little while, but it beats dying.
