How long does it usually take to get over the withdrawal symtoms? I was on a 50mg patch for almost 2 months due to complications from my back surgery. My doctor told me when I used the last patch I had, I would be done with them, but said nothing about weening off of them. I now can't sleep, have extreme hot and cold sweats where I change PJ's 3 times a nite. I not only have the hot/cold thing at night, but during the daytimes also-extreme hot flashes. I can't eat hardly anything and have constipation problems also. I feel tired all the time - I can sleep the day away no problem. I just feel icky! Any suggestions?

I'm afraid there is nothing you can do except contact your doc who put you on Fentanyl in the first place.
The withdrawal effects are the worst in the first few days. In the first 17 hours, there is 50% decrease in serum fentanyl concentrations.

Your body is just adjusting now and it may take some time, I would call a doc if I were you.

I was misdiagnosed and was on the 8 percocet a day for 1 year and the Fentanyl patch for over 6 months. The fentanyl patch was 100 mcg. I tried to get off it myself when I started to develope a tolerance and the reaction I had was miserable. It scared the hell out of me. I contacted my doc since I was NEVER told that the withdrawal would be so nasty. The doc initially said that it would take about 1 week to 1.5 weeks to get off the stuff. The second opinion said that was ridiculous! The withdrawal would take more like 4 to 6 months. This was confirmed by more than 3 doctors. The doc alos said to not attempt to get off this stuff by myself. It could have some VERY SERIOUS consequences. Of course this developed some serious panic on my part. Then I found out that there were detox places that were humane and respected your situation and did not treat you like a drug addict. I went to one for 30 days and was able to kick the stuff within about 2 weeks. The first couple of days was like a serious flu but they gave me stuff to help me through it. I would advise anybody to do this rather than trying to get off it yourself. Never again will I let docs perscribed narcotics indiscriminately.

I was wearing three 100 mike Duragesic patches and changed them every 48 hours. I also took 8 mg of Dilaudid for breakthrough pain. I have done this for 10 years non stop

My Pain Doc died suddenly of a heart attack and now no one will write me scripts. I run out in a week from today and wonder if there is any chance I may die from Withdrawl.

I have only one lung, the other was damaged beyond repair from a gunshot wound, my heart also was damaged. Should I be allowed or forced to quit cold turkey?

I am scared!! Sad Sad

Holy cr*p! I would be scared to death. I would go to the hospital to detox for sure if you can't get an rx.
