I've got a question about fiber capsule supplements. My doctor thinks I might have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I tend to go about 4x a day) and wants me to start taking a fiber supplement. He suggested one of the powder additives but I said I'd rather take the pill type and he said that was ok. I looked at Fibercon and generic versions of that and they say it's a fiber laxitive. I don't need a laxative - I'm already going TOO MUCH. Is this what I really want to be adding??? Thanks.
Hello there. I was recently diagnosed with IBS and have been trying various remedies to fix it. I have IBS-A, but it's the worst when it's looser stools (as you say your having).
Most fiber supplements say laxative, but they aren't really. They will add bulk to your bowels, which will soften hard bowels and bulk up loose ones. I am currently testing out Citrucel. It hasn't harmed me yet and seems to be keeping me regular, with no bloat or pain. I suggest checking out this site and looking up any medicines you're curious about taking.
