Hi, my brother was diagnosed with fibrous displaia of hip, when he broke his hip on football game. What kind of disease is that and how is it manifested? Is it life threatening or not?

Fibrous dysplasia is an abnormality in the development, growth and maturation of the bone. It is a benign condition of the bone which is improperly formed in some part. The bone is not filled in usual way, but with fibrous or scar like tissue, what predisposes the bone to fractures in the affected region. It is most commonly seen in single bone affecting the femoral neck (hip area), jaw, ribs, pelvis and skull. Occasionally it may affect multiple bones. More severe forms are seen as fractures and deformities in patient earlier life, and mild cases of single bone can remain undetected.
