|

| I had the same problem---peeling thumb. The thing that I have found that stops the peeling is at a Walgrens Drug store. It's in a small bottle and called "new skin". Apply this about three times per day especially after showering. Do this for abut a week, then maybe only once per day for about one month----this should cure the problem, but you may have ot repeat occasionally. |

|
|
| I have been suffering from peeling finger tips for about 5 years. Starts on the thumbs, skin becomes thick and then peels off from the top by the nail. then the index finger and then on to the other fingers in turn.Tips become very sore and dry almost raw skin. This goes on for about 3 weeks then they clear for a week and it starts again. Doctor says it is contact dermititis but I have tried every cream and rubber gloves , do not put my hands in chemicals. But then about 4 weeks ago I started taking kelp tablets bought from a health store and it cleared. The tips are a little dry but no thick skin or peeling. A miracle!!!!!!! I have seen on lots of forums of people having the same problem and not having any joy at the doctors.Have a go with kelp and see if it works. |

|
|
Hey i'm a female, 17 years old...
i currently have the skin peeling problem...
its a pain..
at first to begun as just a white layer of skin that started to peel.
Eventually the peeling ate up my finger until it was red and raw looking.
It never got to the stage of bleeding because when it started to really hurt I would put a bandaid on it and moisturise it.
Again, as said above, i would change the bandaid every 2 to 3 days ... until it began to smell, gross i know...but hey! no point wasting good bandaids.
When i'd replace my finger with a new bandaid, it would appear really flakey looking, very gross...but no actual improvement after that stage.
Now, not only is it on my right thumb..but its started to peel in the centres of my index and middle fingers. =[ how unfortunate.
I read that post above from someone...O_____O" GOSH am i afraid....someones had this skin problem for 20 years?!?!?! -gasp-
Is there any cure? Because all of the creams that i've tried so far have limited effect. Normal moisturiser acts like a very temporary relief...my finger will soak it up in no time and become dry minutes later.
Anti fungal cream is pretty good, though it kind of suppresses the throbbing pain and moisterises for longer but doesn't cure it. |

I have acrylic nails and so I got a fungus under one nail on my right thumb. Then the peeling started around the thumb. It moved to the index finger and then generally my cuticles began peeling on all the right hand.
It did eventually moved to the left hand also.
If I tried to trim off the dry skin etc, it made it worse as it built up hard callus's. So I started looking for something that would keep my cuticles moist. Most cuticle creams have Vitamin E which I am allergic to. I found Solar Oil, but found it contained Vitamin E.
I tried Tea Tree Oil. THAT stung and didnt help. I also found that its poisonous to dogs and cats. So If they got it on their fur from me touching them I would be harming them.
What I have found which seems to keep the cuticles moist for me is OPI Avoplex Nail & Cuticle Replenishing Oil. Its about $6 for 2.5 oz. It smells good also. Contains nothing to harm my animals either. Its helping the peeling. But I haven't stopped the condition entirely. I was using the Sally Hansen Hands, Nails & Cuticle Creme and a while later my hands started the peeling. I also use a hand cream Flexitol for very dry skin. I get it at Walgren's. I just discovered that both have Vitamin E, and this is why I suspect my hands wont entirely heal.
btw I also have had cracked heels, but I use a wet pumice stone and liquid soap in the shower daily and this keeps them awesome. My manicurist was the one who told me to do this and it works.
I am allergic to stainless steel if that strikes any chords |

Posted: 08/15/07 - 07:07 Post subject: 20 years of peeling blisters on fingers and toes under contr |
|
|
For what it's worth, here's my story. Every winter (and eventually all year) since I was a kid, my finger tips and toes would get the empty little blisters and would peel. The skin would be so thin that holding anything hot or cold would hurt. My fingertips were smooth since the tender skin underneath had gotten worn. Doctors always tried creams and never seemed to help.
Finally, a co-worker (when I was in my 20's) mentioned the same problem. He said to try B12 supplements (the large oval ones). I can't remember the mg, but now I take 500mg. After a couple of weeks of taking a large b12 (1000mg, I think) each day, my peeling is under control. I say under control because it seems to come back if I go a week or so without the B12 supplements.
Hope this helps. |

Posted: 08/16/07 - 10:31 Post subject: Possible causes of finger flaking and numbness |
|
|
Numbness in extremities (fingers, hands, toes, feet) along with pain and/or slow healing wounds (more then a week to heal) are signs of poor blood circulation. Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is the most common cause, usually brought on by diabetes or heart conditions.
Either way you should see your family doctor as soon as possible, both conditions are easily treated, although there is no cure.
Thickening of the skin, flaking, yellowish, redness and/or dryness is usually a fungal infection. You can treat it with over the counter anti-fungal creams. Although you should still see a family doctor to confirm this. |

|
|
Cycle I have had over the last year, everything happens within about a week.
1. fingers and thumbs feel itchy, numb, red, with very small bubble/bumps that come up.
2. swelling goes away, fingers and thumbs dry out (seem like they shrink like prunes) get scaly.
3. fingers and thumbs turn white, skin gets real thick, peels off in chunks.
4. pain and bleeding.
Steroid creams don't help. Fungal medicine doesn’t work.
Creams will help sooth the symptoms, but I would like to know the cause and of course, the cure! |

| I have the same symptoms as many of you. I have been researching on the net and have also been to my general practioner. Last night I found a possible solution for my spliting, cracked, peeling and sore fingers. My ring and middle fingers are both hard on the tips and are peeling and cracked. My heels do the same thing. Recently, my left middle finger started to get hard and is now starting to peel. I found a site on the internet that stated this could possibly be a vitamin deficiency. Particularly, vitamin E, zinc, copper and omega 3 fatty acids. I am willing to try anything at this point. I am going to go to the local health store and talk to them about a possible vitamin deficiency. I hope this could be the answer for all of us that suffer from this painfu and annoying problem. |

| netlook wrote: | I am 36 too and developed flaky skin on my left fore finger on the side near the thubm. It started off as dry skin, then peeling skin and the a bleeding crack appeared. I worsened the problem by peeling the skin which caused more bleeding. No amout of cream or wetness would solve the issue.
The skin would become very hard and break off - clearly the outer layer was dead and scraping a razor on it scrapes off white dead skin - like scraping chalk.
**** I began having the area covered permanently in band-aid to prevent me from peeling it. I would change the band-aid every 2-3 days after it begins to stink. I did this for 2 months. ***
The condition has lessened in severity after 4 months now but it has begun spreading to other fingers. I now have it on my left thumb anf right middle finger sides - its always to one the side and base of the nail.
They are no longer hard and are soft to touch, but still bleeds if I peel it off( which I have begun avoiding ). Instead of peeling with my fingers, I would scrape off any torn skin ends with a razor and remove much of the dead skin carefully without breaking the surface.
Also I smashed the finger in which this problem originated, in an accident. I was so relieved that the wound healed quickly - in about 2 weeks. The constant bleeding made me think I might have some sort of blood desease . I hope that is not the case... |
