I have it as well. I'm 55 male with good health and this winter the skin on the tip of the ring finger started peeling and looking prunish. There's some pain and even a little bleeding. I tried cream and then Vitamin E from a gel cap. I take a multi-vitamin, Vitamin E and Fish oil daily. After a week, it started on the other ring finger, same place. It's been 3 weeks and the skin on the first ring finger has started growing back. I always feel a bit numb on these finger tips, but on the one that is healing it feels like a light coating of superglue is on there.
I don't have be little bumps I've seen on some of these postings.
Anyone have any ideas about what this is? Treatments that work? Anyone been to a dermatologist?

I had this problem occur last weekend and after reading several posts decide to try these two suggestions.
1. Take a multivitamin
2. Eat 2 oz of dried figs (per day)
I did both and the problem got considerably better within two days and now APPEARS to have gone away.
I don't know which of the two had the impact but I've stopped eating the figs so we'll see.
Just my experience. Hope it helps someone |

My 8 year old son has similar problem. He had scarlett fever when he was 4 years old which is when it first started. I was told it was related to that.
Four years on it has just started again. Sometimes he complains his fingers are so sore when he is writing at school. But other than that it does not bother him |

Just thought I'd add to this.
I have the the same issue - started over 5 years now and currently while I'm typing this 6 of my fingers are dry/cracking - my thumbs, fore finger and midle finger. They're not that bad, just middle finger has a crack on it and is numb - you live with it!
I've seen a dermatologist and he refered me to the hospital who stuck 12 pads on my back for a few days to see if I was alergic to anything - that didn't work - They said to keep rubbing in Epiderm which seems to ease it but doesn't fix in properly
I've got an appointment with my local doctor (a new doc) on Friday so I'll go and see what he's got to say
BTW - It seemed to all start when I cut my right hand on some glass and I had to have 3 stitches in the bit that joins the thumb to the fore finger - I blaim it on that !
I take a multvitamin tablet and cod liver oil daily and this makes no difference - I don't smoke but tend to drink wine most nights (sorry I know I should drink less!) I may try the kelp and drink more milk ??
One of the main things I was worried about was that my wife was pregnant with our first child and thank god it's not contageous ! (we have 3 kids now and they're hands are good)
It's just annoying that sometimes my fingers are that bad I'm unable to bath the kids - I can have cracks on 3 of my fingers and it stops me doing various tasks round the house
Hopefully someone has a cure for this as I've got a feeling I may have to live with this ? |

| My thumb, index finger, and middle finger have been numb for over 24 hours now. I've occasionally experienced some numbness right after waking up, but it has never lasted this long. I've tried soaking my hands in warm water, massaging my fingers, and even shaking my hand like crazy, but nothing has helped. Over the past few hours I've started experiencing occasional sensations that feel like electricity is passing through my fingers. I'm only 17 years old and I don't have a history of health problems, this is unlike anything I've experienced before. Any ideas? |

| hi while some cases do seem be an effect of the carpal tunnel syndrome, other does't seem like it.... but still i would advise people to google 'carpal tunnel syndrome" for more info..... if it is that you have... then at the maximum a simple surgery would do all good, the carpal tunnel syndrome is caused when we apply contunious pressure on the carpal nerves, which happens when using compurters, sleeping with the wrist folded and many other activities please lookin to it, it ould be what you complain about...... |
