First time on birth control, important question!

I just started the pill (loestrin24) today and it is the first day of my period. I have read several places online that I can start having unprotected sex 7 days after I start the pill and still be protected from pregnancy. Is it really safe for me to have sex without a back up method (condoms, etc) in a week from now?

With most birth control pills they suggest you use them for 30 days first (a complete cycle). To find out for sure how long you should wait for your particular medication you should either read the pamphlet that came with the pills (as it should tell you) or ask your doctor to be sure.
