I'm having some symptoms that I've been experiencing off and on for a while now. I'm a 24 year old female. If I could have any insights on what's going on, I'd be greatful. I'm in the processing of getting some medical coverage.

In December I had a kidney stone, and since then I try to keep drinking plenty of water. It was a small stone, but it wasn't passing on its own and causing a good amount of pain and after three weeks I had lithiotripsy. I found some stone pieces which were tested and found to be made of calcium. My doctor told me to drink more water and get more calcium.

In April of this year, I began experiencing flank pain on my right side, which was the same side that I had the kidney stone in. While the pain with that stone was quite severe, this was rather mild and I usually didn't need to take anything for it. After a few weeks, I had a CT scan scheduled. A week before my appointment, I had one short burst of sudden pain one morning, which passed after a few minutes. Later my CT scan revealed fluid around my uterus, which was attributed to a cyst bursting, which I figured was the cause of that short burst of pain. There was also a very tiny kidney stone, but my urologist said that wouldn't have caused the pain I was experiencing.

I just recently started a new job, and I had more pain in my right side, again right around my waist area. I tried to keep better tabs on it. Thinking it was a kidney stone, I began drinking more water. Whenever I drank something, usually the pain subsided. At one point I was drinking a steady stream of water during the day. Sometimes the pain gets worse when I'm stressed and really worrying about said pain. Also, in the morning when I urinated for the first time, my urine would also be darker than it was during the day. That is one of the things I'm worried about. Is this normal? Is it related to my flank pain? It has never burned to urinate, so I ruled out a UTI infection.

Between my ovulation and before my period, I had another burst of pain while at work, similar to the one in April. A few days after that, i didn't experience any pain and then my period started. My period is nearly over, and the flank pain is returning. My periods have been pretty regular.

So my first concern is the urine color. Is it normal for it to be dark after sleeping and probably holding it in all night...?

Secondly is the recurring flank pain. Any insights on this? Should I be trying to see a doctor soon? Is it a cyst, or kidney stones? Maybe something else?

dark urine usually means blood. Have you had a creatinine done? Just need to make sure you kidney function is ok.
