My very good friend is pregnant for several weeks and we were discussing HCG fluctuation as her sister told her that it may cause miscarriage. She was little bit afraid because of this as we don't know how level of HCG may varies and in which ranges. I would be very grateful for any useful information.

Hi, HCG level is very important in the first three months of pregnancy. It is indication if everything is fine with your pregnancy. Level of HCG has to constantly increase and fluctuation is just fine if this number grows. If there is some drop in HCG level it may be sign of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. Anyway HCG is not absolutely sure sign and it would be the best if you make ultrasound too.

Hi, just want to share my experience and will also try to keep you updated. I am also seeing fluctuations on my BHCG levels. My first one was 13, then 49, 86, and now 70. My first HCG was done 8 days after the first of my period... so I didn't think I could be pregnant. Now looking at the drop of the last HCG, my period could have been a miscarriage. I also had some spotting for a couple of days, but no heavy bleeding or cramping that requires an ER visit. My Dr. also said that a miscarriage could be happening.... so they want more HCG levels to make sure that it's decreasing. I'm just very confused and sad right now... I'm not doing too well with all this waiting....

Hi I also have the same experience. My HCG levels are as follows - 151-197-201-147-167-154. I did the first HCG the day after I started bleeding - so I was told I have a miscarriage, but these fluctuating levels are driving me nuts. I am still spotting - day 16 !! , and my HCG is stubbornly at the same range from day 1. I had an endometrial biopsy 2 days ago, to find out if I have a miscarriage of a intra utrine pregnancy, still waiting for results, and am soooooo nervous.

Just wanted to share my experience. My first HCG was 684, then dropped to 385, then went back up to 670. I had blood taken again today and if the numbers rise, my doctor will perform an internal ultrasound. This will have been my fourth miscarriage and i have no answers. I am scheduled with a reproductive endocronolgist next week, but now it sounds like I will require a D&C, which only means more and more testing and waiting.
