In their new research on trans fats, scientists found that they may increase fertility risks by 70%.

Trans fats have already been linked to obesity epidemic, artery-blocking ‘bad’ cholesterol, strokes and heart attacks and are being forbidden from state to state. The biggest problem with trans fat is that you never can tell how much of it there is in a product, or how much it has been used by a restaurants’ chefs since the amount does not have to be put on the label.
The scientists found that as little as a portion of chips or a doughnut could increase infertility chances big time. Trans fats are used in so many foods from chocolate to pies and are impossible to track. They have no nutritional value and all they do is provide the taste and increase the foods shelf life.

Infertility is also a growing problem. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston studied 18,500 women who were trying to conceive and found that 438 had ovulatory problems. The study results showed that women who were taking 2% of their energy intake from trans fats, instead of carbohydrates or polyunsaturated fats such as sunflower oil, had a 70 % greater risk of infertility through lack of ovulation and those who were taking trans fats instead of monounsaturated fats such as olive oil had 50% chances of going through fertility problems.

The findings are seriously indicating that women should pay attention to their nutrition and watch for their trans fat intake as well as their smoking habits. Women at most risk are those with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
It is obvious that many women are undergoing unnecessary infertility treatments when they should be just orientating to healthy nutrition and eliminating trans fats consumption.
