Hi. I was diagnosed with asthma and later with GERD. I know many asthmatics experience heartburn. Asthmatics are more likely to have GERD. Does heartburn cause asthma? What should I do?
Hi. There is a relation between asthma and GERD, but this relationship is still not understood well. Medical experts say GERD is a cause of asthma when it begins in adulthood, when asthma doesn`t respond to standard treatment, and when its` symptoms get worse after a meal or exercise. Treating GERD relieves the symptoms of asthma. People with both, asthma and GERD, must take their prescribed asthma meds and avoid asthma triggers.
