My grandfather was diagnosed with gastric cancer (adenocarcinoma) two weeks ago, at the age of 75. We are all worried about him. What causes gastric cancer? What is the treatment for it and survival rate?

There are several different types of cancer that can occur in the stomach. The most common type is called adenocarcinoma which has his own several types. Other types of gastric cancer occur much less. Tumors in the lower stomach are more often cured than those in the higher area. Adenocarcinoma occurs most frequently in men over 40 years old. Experts think that increase of gastric cancer is related with high intake of salted, cured and smoked foods, and decreased vitamin C consumption. Diagnosis of gastric cancer is usually delayed by the absence of symptoms in early disease. Also, by self-treatment of symptoms that may be common to other, less serious gastrointestinal disorders (bloating, gas, and a sense of fullness). Symptoms of gastric cancer are loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, vague abdominal fullness, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, vomiting blood and many others. The only curative treatment is surgical removal of the stomach (gatrectomy). Radiation therapy and chemotherapy in treatment can be beneficial. A recent study showed that for many patients the chance of a cure was improved by chemotherapy and radiation therapy given after surgery.

HI
MY BROTHER (39YRS) IS SUFFERING FROM STOMACH CANCER, HE WAS OPERATED (REMOVAL OF ENTIRE STOMACH) ON 28TH APRIL 2007, HAD STOMACH PAIN AND VOMITTING SINCE JAN 2007 AND WAS DIAGNOISED IN MARCH. AFTER THE OPERATION HE HAS HAD 3 CHEMOTHERAPHY , NOW HE IS HOSPITALISED AND IS ON DRIPS, HIS INTESTINES HAVE CLAMPED AND THE PASSAGE HAS NARROWED THERE BY MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR FOOD/LIQUID TO PASS, NO SOONER HE HAS A SIP OF LIQUID HE GETS SEVERE STOMACH PAIN AND VOMITTING, HE HAS BECOME VERY PALE AND WEAK.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SURVIVAL RATE OF STOMACH CANCER AFTER REMOVAL OF THE ENTIRE STOMACH.
DOCTORS SAY THE ONLY OTHER OPTION IS TO INSERT A FOOD PIPE EXTERNALLY DIRECTLY INTO HIS INTESTINES (SINCE HE DOES NOT HAVE A STOMACH ) SO THAT HE GETS SOME NUTRITION AND HEALTH.

SOMEONE PLEASE REPLY ABOUT AND KNOW ABOUTS OR ANY INFORMATION HOW TO HELP HIM OUT.
HIS WIFE (37 YRS ) WAS OPERATED FOR BRAIN TUMOR IN SEPT 2006 , THEY HAVE A SMALL DAUGHTER WHO WILL SOON BE 7YRS.

PLEASE SOMEONE REPLY. WHAT IS HIS SURVIVAL CHANCES AND HOW LONG
