Genital Warts - sexually transmitted only?

Is it possible to pick up Genital Warts thru means other than as an STI. I have contracted these recently but my doctor told me that they may not necessarilly be sexually transmitted.

I have some on the lower part of my abdomen/stomach area and 2 on my penis?

Any ideas?

Genital warts are transmitted through skin to skin contact usually by having sex but you could have contracted them just by rubbing without inserting your thing.
