I am 50 years old and have been getting palpitations over the last two months. My resting pulse rate has been between 95 and 105. Because of these symptoms, I have done ECG, which came back as normal. Doctor told me that my heart sounds fine. I wonder what caused heart palpitations, and can that be harmful?
First thing, I have to ask you what about stress in your life. Most people do have daily stresses, but it is important to keep it at an acceptable level. Maybe you have a normally high level but you have adapted yourself to cope with this increased level. Only then, your heart palpitations might be that stress is indeed a cause. Heart palpitations themselves are not harmful, but it is important to determine if they are a symptom of another problem. Maybe that problem which caused them is more serious and needs to be treated. I could recommend you to had blood tests to eliminate other ailments such as infection, or anemia. Sometimes and thyroid gland problems or hormonal changes are possible causes of heart palpitations. All of these can be a cause, but I think it is very good news that your ECG is OK. It is a somewhat complex circle of events but you have to take care that this circle needs to be broken at some point.
