Getting rid of mucus with Elecampane Root?

I must admit that I never imagined I would have this much trouble with a simple coughing. I took some syrup but it did not work and I am still not thrilled with the idea of going to a doctor and getting some meds. Can I get rid of accumulated mucus with Elecampane root?

Elecampane is primarily used as a medication to deal with asthma. It does help with loosening mucus (phlegm) and other bronchial secretions and in this way freeing airway passages which makes breathing easier. Still, if that does not work, perhaps there is some other condition that is causing your problems and you are not aware of it.
