New research suggests that women who have good relationships with their fathers are most likely to choose husbands who resemble their fathers.

Also, those women who had a negative or a less positive childhood relationship with their father weren't attracted to men who looked or acted like their fathers.

Forty-nine Polish women were asked to look at pictures of 15 male faces and choose the one they found the most attractive. Then, their choices were compared to the photos of their fathers. The women had to rate their childhood relationship with their father before seeing the pictures.

The study findings add to the evidence that there is a huge parental influence on ways people choose their partners. Until recently, scientists believed that this parental influence was a passive process.

The study shows that the human brains don't build prototypes of the ideal face upon faces we see each day around us but upon faces of those who we have good relationships with.
