Haemolytic uraemic syndrome can have a very similar symptoms and presentation like thrombotic thrombocztopenic purpura or TTP. Haemolytic uraemic syndrome is a disorder characterised by thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic haemololytic anaemia and kidney failure. About 90% of Haemolytic uraemic syndrome cases are caused by a certain group of bacteria known as verocytotoxin, producing E.coli. Congenital Haemolytic uraemic syndrome can occur during infancy or in adult life and it is associated with deficiency of factor H. Deficiency of factor H has been associated with a particular type of kidney disease and this factor H is a plasma protein synthesised by the liver, which regulates the complement pathway. The most common symptoms of this condition are abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever that can be minor or absent. About 50% of patients need kidney dialysis during the acute stage of the illness.
