My mom had gastric bypass surgery recently because she was overweight. She was feeling well in the after surgery, but after awhile she experienced hair loss. Is this normal after gastric bypass surgery? She is 52 years old and she had almost 150 pounds before the gastric bypass surgery.

Gastric Bypass surgery can help or prevent many medical conditions that can be life threatening due to obesity. Usually patients are at least 100 pounds over their ideal weight to consider the surgery. Gastric Bypass surgery also has a lot of side affects that you need to ask your physician about. After surgery, patients can have vitamin and mineral deficiencies and need to take supplements and Hair loss can be a side-affect from having gastric-bypass surgery. If patients have conditions that are life threatening due to obesity, this procedure can save their lives, but it takes determination to achieve your goals.

Hello!!!

The answer is YES... it is completely normal to experience hair loss after major surgery and even rapid massive weight loss or crash dieting.

The shock on the body after surgery is expressed by hair loss..and this will reverse itself too Smile It usually starts a few months..2 or 3, after the surgery. Not immediately. Any person experiencing hair loss as a result of major surgery or rapid massive weight loss or crash dieting can take pantogar. there are excellent studies ..it is a vitamin combination that builds up your body to strengthen the hair and even nails for when the hair grows back, which it will. There are also no known side effects Smile This is not advice about other medical reasons for hair loss... this is about a temporary shock to the system that will reverse itself within a few months. Your hair will grow back without pantogar too...but it is good to have it nonetheless.

Hope this helps Smile
