| PCOS is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Its where there can be several cysts (fluid filled sacs) that are on your ovary (that can be very painful when they rupture; I've had two to rupture). Most women with PCOS often don't realize it. Symptons include irregular periods, trouble losing weight, infertility, increased hair growth, acne and oily skin, pelvic pain, thinning hair, diabetes Type 2 and skin tags (tiny excess flaps of skin) in the armpits or neck area. And the best treatment for PCOS is birth control pills. When trying to get pregnant having PCOS the first medicine most doctors try is Clomid which didn't work for me. |

| I was diagnosed with PCOS and anovulation. Only indication of PCOS was LH:FSH ratio, none of the other signs usually associated with PCOS were present so unsure if the true problem was the anovulation due to being chronically underweight. I took Femara on my fourth treatment cycle after Clomid thinned uterine lining too much and caused problems with CM. Can't recall dosage or # of days taken (was in 2004) but I took it in conjunction with injectible Follistim, trigger shot and IUI. Pregnant first try with this combo and had a healthy baby girl (Jan. 2005) at 36 weeks due to placental insufficiency. Found my way here today after reading that Elizabeth Edwards is taking Femara. There's now info out that Femara's use in infertility may increase the risk of birth defects. Best of luck to you. |

| Congrats on your baby girl! I go in two days for an ultrasound to see if Femara helped with ovulation. Pray for me it did. I read a couple of days ago that one study really couldn't tell a difference with birth defects associated with femara and those who did not take it. I guess its a chance we all take by trying to get pregnant anyway. thanks |

Just wondering if any one else dealt with it and PCOS. been trying to get pregnant for going on 6 yrs. Tried Clomid with no ovulation. |
I have PCOS and had 2 cycles of Femara 2.5mg with no luck. I have miscarried 2-3 times in the past (that we know of) without any medical assistance. I have been on Metformin oral drug therapy for about 1 year steadily and this 2nd round of Femara, for whatever reason, I started my period on day 29. For the past 6mos, I've started on day 33 or 34. We aren't trying a 3rd cycle just because my emotions cannot handle anymore disappointment. Good luck to you since I've ready SOO much positive praise for PCOS women on Femara...I'm an unlucky few it did not help. My doctor DID test my blood the first cycle of Femara on day 26 and said the levels of Progesterone looked good like I ovulated, but who ,knows. My doctor had me on Femara days 3-7...maybe since my cycles were so long before. |

Hi Christy,
Just wanted to ask if your doctor was willing to try a higher dosage of femera. Most women get pregnant on 5mg femera. Maybe in time you will be willing to try a higher dose. |

greetings everyone,
this is my first time on this website. I pray this will be helpful to me. My husband and i have been married for 9 years this year, we have been trying for a long time to have a child. I have a 12y/o child from a previous relationship. This child will be my husbands first. we found out that with me having irregular cycles it has caused me not to ovaulate or if i am ovaulating i dont know when. So as of Wed of this week I will start on my first cycle of femara 2.5mg x 2 tablets a day for 5 days.
i have so many questions to ask and not sure where to go for answers. i feel that this website is great i hope to hear from some one who understands how i feel
sincerly,

I tried for 2 and 1/2 years to get pregnant. During those 2 years I did 8 months of Chlomid alone, 2 cycles of Chlomid and I.U.I. and had no luck. My fertility Dr. swithced me to Femara and my first cycle on it I got pregnant. I also have irregular cylces with unexplained infertility. I now have a healthy 10 month old daughter. So have faith it does work!!!!!!!
I went to the fertility clinic today to begin the process for babe #2 and was given my RX for Femara, but I am a little nervous to take it due to all the controversey. I am also still nusing and afraid because I don't want to harm my daughter. Has anyone out there taken it while breastfeeding? |

| Well, I went for my ultrasound this past Friday and my doctor said that my follicles were too small to release any eggs. They measured at 14 mm and 11 mm and they should have been 24mm or bigger. So they next thing he suggested was to try Clomid 200 mg and then if that doesn't work try a surgery called ovary drilling, not quite sure what that involves just yet. Then if that doesn't work the only other option for me is In Vitro which costs $18,000. That's a lot of money so my husband and I are just praying about what to do about all this. It's very confusing at times which way to turn. Right now I am trusting the Lord and the doctors. |

I was 20 when my husband and i wanted to start our family. We tried for 6 months no luck. I am not a very patient person so we made a appt with my ob. Come to find out i have pcos. We started with clomid and metformin. After 6 cycles with no luck my ob sent me to a specialist. I told him we wanted to try something as soon as possible. He gave us FEMARA. He started us out with 2.5 mg X 2 for 5 days. and 1500 mg of metformin. Yes that was it one cycle! My son was born Nov 3rd 2005. born at 38 weeks. Minor health issues but nothing was caused by taking femara. He is 17 months old and is the best thing i could of asked for. My husband and i started trying again in Nov 2006. We thought it couldnt hurt. We got a pos preg test we couldnt believe it. We were almost in shock. I went to the ob got my lab results and ultrasound. A few days later my levels were back down. Their was no baby. This was frightning. I had hoped it would of been easy this time around. We didnt let that stop us. My cycles are every 40 days so it seems like forever till we can try again. Yes i take 200 mg of prometrium to jumpstart my cycle on day 30 aunt flow just like to make a late entrance. We start femara the end of April 2.5 mg X 2 for 5 days. we are skipping clomid. It made my linning to thin. We are going straight to Femara! Keep your fingers crossed and GOOD LUCK! When you feel tired or depressed or the meds are driving you crazy, Just remember the day when you get that pos test and get out of the scarry zone all the bad memories will fade away leaving nothing but joy for the rest of your life.
God Bless
