I wanted to tell you guys that I also have tried femara.. I did clomid for 5 months and that didnt help me.. (ttc for almost 2 years)... then did Femara and got pregnant the 1st time around! There were no side affects for me and it was only taken for 5 days... then got the HCG shot and was pregnant 2 weeks later! Today I have a BEAUTIFUL HEALTHY baby boy.. LUCAS AIDAN who is 5 months TODAY!

I just prayed about it and trusted in the Lord and really had a peace about my infertility doctor and this med...

If anyone has anymore questions about femara or getting pregnant please let me know...

GOD BLESS YOU GUYS!

It has been reassuring to read about people who have had success with Femara. I had a miscarriage last June, was diagnosed with insulin resistance in August and have been taking Metformin(Glucophage) ever since. My cycles have been very long, about 45 days, which means fewer chances to conceive. My doctor put me on Clomid for one month in Dec. but I didn't ovulate. Now this month, my cycle was only 29 days! So now she wants to try Femara---I really hope this works because I, like many of you, am frustrated and can't figure out my body. I start Femara today, 2.5 mg days 3-7, then I'll return to the doc 5-7 dpo for a progesterone test to see if I ovulated. My ob hasn't done any ultrasounds, though, to check my ovaries, just the progesterone test. Is that normal? Good luck to all of you--I hope to have good news to report soon.

I'm so excited to have found this forum. I'm 25, and I was diagnosed with atypical PCOS in 2005. Basically my only symptoms were irregular menstrual cycles and after ultrasound the typical "pearl"-like ovaries. I'm not overweight and not insulin resistant. Because of these things I did not respond to clomid at all, and of course and diabetes medications were not going to do a thing for me.

After two rounds with Clomid, I did a cycle using Gonal-F (FSH) injections for about 10 days followed by a shot of Ovidrel (HCG). After treatment we did an IUI and two weeks later we were pregnant. Unfortunately the pregnancy did not continue and we had to have a D&C in December of 2005.

We put the fertility on hold for a while, and now we're back in the saddle. We've moved since then and have a new doctor and we're about to start our first cycle. We'll be taking 5mg of Femara on days 3-7 followed by Gonal-F injections, an HCG shot and an IUI. I've been reading up on Femara and am really excited about the possibilities. From what I read, Femara (as compared with Clomid) causes the uterine lining to become thicker, thus increasing the chances of maintaining a pregnancy, which may have been my problem last time. I begin the Femara on the 26th, and I am just ready to get started.

FYI* For those of you skeptical about Femara and pregnancy. . .
When taking Femara for fertility treatment, you are only using it for 5 days, and those 5 days are weeks before you actually conceive, and Femara is rapidly excreted from the body. It is only a problem when you take it WHILE pregnant.

Keep your faith up - God is faithful! Smile

I'm in Canada and was put on femara for a couple of IUI cycles after chlomid didn't work 2+ years ago. Got pregnant and have a healthy 2 year old son. Just went back to the fertility clinic today to start round #2 and the doctor told me that the drug company pulled femara from the Canadian market for use in fertility treatment. While Femara is labelled for use with breast cancer patients, it is commonly used 'off label' for infertility as it has an effect on estrogen. The pharma company's website clearly states now that only post-menopausal women should take this drug. There are apparently increased risk of birth defects in women who have taken femara. My doctor said he will not use it anymore. Before you continue this treatment, please check into the safety and birth defects issue with your physician and do some research.

Ladies, do not let this discourage you! She obviously was fine if she conceived and delivered a healthy baby with Femara. Studies have proven that Femara can cause birth defects IF taken WHILE pregnant. If you are taking Femara, you should be under strict observation by your doctor anyway. He/she will detect pregnancy before you start your next cycle of Femara.

I have not read/heard of a single case where Femara caused a birth defect when taken prior to conception.

Keep your faith!

I wanted to let you know that I also have tried femara and I got pregnant on the first cycle with it. Unfortunately that ended in a miscarriage at 11 weeks in Dec 07. Once we were able to start ttc again my dr. put me on femara again and that failed but I'm on it again and I hope this is the month. It worked the 1st time so I have faith that it will work again. I take it cd 3-7 and go in on day 14 for an u/s then given an hcg trigger shot. I usually ovulate 24-36 hrs later. I also did not have any side effects with this drug. Hope this helps.... Good luck to everyone

I will be starting femara in about a week for my lack of ovulation. my progesterone levels were very low (.01) and due to that I dont produce any eggs on my own. my husband and I got married almost a year ago and have been trying since May, but even the last 5-6 years of our relationship we were not using any protection. I hope femara works for us I am a little nervous Smile

I'm so glad I found this site. I have a beautiful 6-yr. old daughter we conceived naturally, but we have been ttc again for 4 years with no results at all. A year and a 1/2 ago, I did 2 cycles of Clomid and 2 of Femara. No pregnancy, but I did ovulate regularly for a change. We took a break, but I have not had a mc for 7 months, so I am getting ready to start the Femara again as soon as my mc starts again. I am just finishing Provera to get it started. I had no side effects with the Femara. My fertility specialist has been in this business for over 17 years, and he has seen more successful pregnancies with Femara, fewer chances of multiples, and less of a chance of cancer in the future (Clomid can increase these chances after more than 6 months on the drug). I feel hopeful about Femara this time around, and the chances of fetal abnormalities are when it is taken DURING pregnancy. I think we are all pretty much pregnancy test experts by now, and the chance that we would continue taking the Femara while pregnant is very slim, since we would be testing about 2 weeks after finishing the last pill, when it would be out of our systems. Good luck to you all-please keep posting updates-I know I will!

I just finished my cycle with femara and gonal-f, and had two IUIs following my HCG injection. I am now in my two week waiting period before my pregnancy test - I'm a bit anxious!
