I tried for 2 and 1/2 years to get pregnant. During those 2 years I did 8 months of Chlomid alone, 2 cycles of Chlomid and I.U.I. and had no luck. My fertility Dr. swithced me to Femara and my first cycle on it I got pregnant. I also have irregular cylces with unexplained infertility. I now have a healthy 10 month old daughter. So have faith it does work!!!!!!!
I went to the fertility clinic today to begin the process for babe #2 and was given my RX for Femara, but I am a little nervous to take it due to all the controversey. I am also still nusing and afraid because I don't want to harm my daughter. Has anyone out there taken it while breastfeeding?

You should not take femara while breastfeeding.

I am 35 years old and have been trying to concieve for over a year. I have always ovulated regularly between days 13 and 15. My doctor recommended that I try Femara to up our odds a little. It is now day 16, I took the femara from days 3-7. I have not ovulated, and my hormone levels are not peaking, according to my Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor. I had a sono on day 14 and had several follicles, but none were big enough. Before taking the femara I ovulated every month. I don't know what to think. My doctor says I need to ovulate by day 18. I am so frustrated. Has anyone else had an experience like this? I know I am being a freak, I am just surprised and getting discouraged.
For the first time since 1997 I am not ovulating...and am on Femara. I had an 11 day AF complete w/headaches, nausea so bad I thought I might be pg (took 3 tests!), dizziness, it was lovely. So here I am cd19 and no ovulation in sight. I'm more than a little frustrated that the med my RE used to produce a stronger ovulation resulted in NO ovulation!!! Mad

Well I did the 4 months of Femara and no results. My OB stated I needed to go have an HSG test to make sure my tubes were not blocked and that the hubby needs to get checked as well and then were off to a specialist. Did the HSG on Tuesday and the results were great. No blocked tubes. Pray that the hubby is fine. Does anyone know what other steps they will go since Femara didn't work?

I also wonder what other steps there are. I have PCOS (dx in 1999) and have been on Metformin (1700 mg) since Aug 2006. Tried three rounds of Clomid upping by 50 mg to 150mg each time with NO luck - or didn't ovulate according to progesterone blood tests. Now with a fertility specialists and have done one round of Femara. Did day 12 ultrasound yesterday and was told that the biggest follicle was around 12.5 so would not do a shot. Was told to BD every other day starting tomorrow and then come in for progesterone in early Sept (day 24). Was told by the nurse that did the ultrasound that if this didn't work, then no more Femara cycles. Does that sound strange to anyone? I also had extreme breast pain during the Femara treatment - which to me indicated a reduction in Estrogen and therefore would think that the meds were at least doing something right, right?

This is all SO frustrating. I feel like doctors lump everyone in the same boat when we are clearly very different. Argh.

I started taking Femara in July and am now on my third cycle. My mc is 30 days on the dot and has not been extended due to Femara. My "issue" is low progesterone so taking Femara is supposed to help increase my lining for implantation. I've been pregnant and miscarried twice. I've got my fingers crossed that the third time is the charm!

I am 27 and my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 1/2 years. Started at a specialist, we had the whole work up done: blood work was great, HSG looked great, sperm a little bit low. I have had a lot of problems with ovarian cysts though. Planning to do IUI if 2 cyles of femara doesn't work. Supposed to start femara tomorrow (first round) really worried about all the warnings of off label use and birth defects, but really want to be a mom. I am getting very anxious and I little disappointed about not conceiving yet. Does anyone think this med is unsafe?

My husband and I have one healthy, 2 year old son whom was conceived without using infertility drugs. We are trying to have our second child which has resulted in 2 miscarriages this year. Our infertility physician put us on Femara CD 3-7 and progesterone cream 10% for CD 16-30. We have been doing this for three months and no pregnancy. We were not having problems becoming pregnant, just continuing a pregnancy. Now I cannot get pregnant either. I am starting to become frustrated. I hope this medication is working for many more people out there.

I am 27 and my husband and I have been ttc. I went off the pill 10 months ago and I have had irregular periods ever since. Went to obgyn and had tests done: blood work, hsg, semen analysis. HSG was abnormal, so I had laproscopic surgery to correct blocked tubes but once the doc looked inside...everything was clear and normal. Had more blood tests and might have PCOS but the only symptom is irregular periods. I just started Femara today day 6-10 and then I go on day 14 to have ultrasound. I hope this works and helps me ovulate. I'm also getting acupuncture done to help with infertility, would highly recommend.

I posted for the first time in Sept. Well just an update. I took 1st round of femara day 3-7 and then in for ultrasound on CD10 there were 2 huge follicles on each side, doc says likely that only two would continue to grow and others would shrink, they gave me a shot of Repronex (to make them get even bigger). Then on CD 13 hubby gave me trigger shot, boy was that interesting. I am also on estrace and progesterone, just to help in case it works. I am CD25 and really can't wait to find out. I am so stressed about doing all this for almost 3 years. If I see another neg preg test I will be so heart broken.

i got pregnant on my first round of clomid, but i used a high dose of medication 100mg right off the bat. The problem is that now I am trying to have my second child and the clomid does not work ! I am taking 200 mg, with tremendous side effects, nausea, vomitting, headaches ect. I am thinking of taking 5mg of femara combined with 200mg of clomid from days 5-9 of my cycle to get pg for sure because we have already been tyring for 7 months. Does anyone know if this is wise ? PS I have PCOS. And for the person who didn't know its polycystic ovarian syndrome. I didn't know either until I was diagnosed !

Well I had no luck with 1st round of femara and I am on 2nd round. Follicles are much bigger this month though. Keeping my finger crossed. My doctor always wants me to have the shot on day 14, some people I have heard wait until later, does it matter. Or will the trigger make you ovulate no matter what? Having a rough day, my sister-in-law just announced preg with #2, 3rd neice/nephew in family since we started ttc.
