Headaches and Lightheadedness after eating

Hi All-

My husband gets headaches and lightheadedness after he eats. It use to be after he ate spicy foods or foods with alot of oil but now it seems to happen everyday. I am not sure if he is worrying about it and making it worse or if it is really getting worse. Of course he is going to the doctor in a couple of days, but I want him to calm down with an answer while we wait for the appointment. Any clue?

Hi! I think I know what your husband is going through. I had the same problems and they were making me even more irritable that I already was. It would start about an hour after I finish eating, and I would start feeling lightheaded and weak and sleepy, and I would get headaches but not all the time.

I went to see a doc and I thought they would send me to see a neurologist but they did a blood test and realized I was hypoglycemic.

I was found to have reactive hypoglycemia, one of two types in people who don’t suffer from diabetes. Reactive means that it happens after eating a meal. This type of low blood sugar is not connected to any underlying diseases although I felt deadly ill when I went to see a doc.

Does your husband have any sorts of physical activities? He should. He should also have small, often meals instead of big ones. As for the food, it should be high-fiber, low sugar, and should eat all meat like poultry and fish, as well as rice, potatoes, fruits and vegetables.

He should cut down on caffeine. When the symptoms happen, he needs to take a mix of carbohydrate with some protein, which means he could have crackers and cheeps, apple and cheese, or take a cup pf milk.
At least that was what I was told.
