PostPosted: 07/07/07 - 01:24    Post subject: guest reply - heavy and hard heart beats Vote now! Reply with quote

I have the same experience with my heart beat and have had this for many years. My heart just beats really hard, strong, and if I laid down and put anything on my chest it would rise & fall with the beat of my heart. I can see my chest moving with my heart beat & there are times where it shows in my neck or I feel it in my head somewhere.

Even though doctors can say this is normal, I just do not think it is normal to have a heart beating this strong and working this hard. Wouldn't it be hard on the heart to pound so heavily with each heart beat? I know they say that working the heart is a good thing. But in this case, I can be sitting down and my heart is doing its own thing that doesn't necessarily coincide with my activity or lack of activity at the time.

If having a high heart rate can have consequences, it would seem to me that an overworking heart would also have consequences.

But the doctors say nothing is wrong... so I suppose nothing is wrong & will accept this and now, when it happens, I really don't pay as much attention to it since it's been so random and either happens for a long time in one week then will happen again at some other time. Either way, they say nothing is wrong with this type of heart beat.

I am 23 years old and have been having these same problems for the past 8 years or so and have almost learned how to control it. I can feel an attack coming on for an entire day then it sets off once I exercise, about once every four weeks. When I feel it coming on I just sit out that day, however recently i have experienced it after or during drinking.

I suffered an injury to my left arm when i was young damaging my ulnar vein and nerve. My attacks seem to be triggered when i move my left arm in a quick fashion, is this true for anyone else?? I also used ephedra as a teenager playing hockey and the effect of the drug is very similar to what we all seem to be experiencing...has anyone else used anything like ephedra before, maybe theres a connection there?

Also, after i weather the storm so to speak, my indurance increases greatly for the remainder of my game

Thank goodness for the internet. I have had a pounding chest, palputations, left tingling arm and heaviness in my chest. It happened once last year that lasted for a couple of weeks until I finally got scared enough to go to the ER. Had the stress test and 24 hour holtor monitor and everything came back normal. Well now it's back - with a vengence. For the last 3 weeks I have had broken sleep because my heart is about to pound out of my chest and I get ocassional palputations. I have a tingling left arm and tightness in my chest. I try to ignore it and hope that in the morning it will be gone, but no luck. I am going to try to see a specialist because I am very tired of it. I have just been introduced to the idea of it being Diabetes. My father side of the family has a history of Diabetes. It's great to hear I am not the only one with these symptoms.

Wow, same here.

I'm 19 years old in college and I'm in great shape. However, recently I've been getting weird heart beat sensations. I've been trying to jog and my heart just races and beat fast. I feel my heart beating really hard in my gut almost all the time, especially when I lay down to sleep. It's scary. I'm also not scared of speaking, but for some reason I was really anxious when I had to give a speech in my communications class.

i went to the doc a few weeks ago to get aderall to help me study for upcoming finals and i apparently had high blood pressure. im a healthy dude and always had a nice, lower bp. i had an ekg done and blood tests but everything was alright. i also was told i had elevated liver enzymes, but doc said that was probably nothing.

i think i developed an anxiety i used to not have. i was really anxious in the docs office when she was finding my bp. but anxiety doesnt explain the symptoms i get when im not anxious. i had to stop working out because i suddenly felt like i was having a heart attack. same with jogging. i cant jog like a was just months ago because i feel like im going to have a heart attack. i feel like i should only jog when other people are on the track in case i collapse.

my gut really pounds hard too sometimes. it always has had its own beat, but it got suddenly worse recently when all these symptoms started developing. i feel like im having an aortic aneurism all the damn time. it's pretty bleak that with 3 pages of quality concise responses, nobody has posted a response.

this xmas break, i want to get some cardio-specific tests/scans done. otherwise im convinced its an anxiety effect thats happening even when we're not anxious. ive always slept on my stomach, but recently the pounding of my gut against the bed has been so uncomfortable ive had to sleep on my side or back. what gives?

Allrajt. I dont seem to be the only one with this pounding every day.
Since I was afraid gettin a heart attack, or something, I've been very afraid of this and ive been anxieous every day in 3 months now.

Ive done like 5 EKG's, ultra and take blood tests and other things.
But I just cant forgot about these beats.

I always feel it while I am sleeping on stomach which I NEVER have been before in 18 years....when I lay at my back its gettin better.

Im taking anti-deppresive meds against anxious it better but I still can feel it most of the time. It drives me crazy and I have not been playing sports for this time like ive done before like 6 times a week.

What could It be?
I try not to think about it but its f@#$^&* impossible Razz

I just came online to find out what was wrong with me. I'm at work and all of a sudden my heart is POUNDING! I felt my pulse and it was normal, not speeding up or anything, but my heart kept pounding. I've taken a first aid course and I was afraid I was having a heart attack, but I wasn't light-headed or tingly, and my arms didn't hurt or anything. I didn't have any symptoms except the pounding heart. I have no idea what happened.
I wish a doctor or somebody would get on here and tell us a possible diagnosis.

I had the samething happen to me over the past few weeks. I'm about to go to the doctor because of it. My heartbeat just seems wierd and it's like I can feel it and hear it when I lay down to go to sleep.

I'm a 22 year old college athlete so when my breathing got heavy I assumed I had a chest infection or strained/tore a muscle in my chest while working out. Then it went away. Now this past week and a half I have had the same heart pounding as all of you, I have weird sensations on my left side and still have a hard time getting a normal breath, like my lungs feel shallow. When I go to sleep it is the worst because when I lay in bed and am not tired all I think about is my breathing, then when I can feel myself about to doze off I suddenly wake in a sudden panic. Other things that trigger it are when Im in class and start to day dream during lecture, all of a sudden Ill have the same panic feeling for a second and then it goes away. I'm going to try to drink more water, I had a feeling it might have something to do with my diet maybe (I try to eat healthy, but college eating habits are unhealthy to say the least). Hopefully I'm just dehydrated because Im used to getting about 10 hours of sleep a night and lately Ive been getting 4-5 if Im lucky. Glad I googled my symptoms and found that Im not the only one with this problem.

I'm going to add my "ditto" in here. I'm 26 and I just woke up with my heart feeling like it was literally beating it's way out of my chest. The lower half of my left arm tingled a little bit at first and it's still tingling a little but that's about it. It's not like it came from a nightmare because my heart was beating so much harder than it ever has before, even harder than when I've had an adrenaline rush. It took about 5 minutes to get my heart to calm, when it usually takes about 30 seconds.

This is the first time it's happened, usually when I get a chest pain of any kind it's a tightening feeling encompassing my entire chest(it comes randomly a couple times a year).

I had a couple drinks last night and was helping a friend move, but I was relatively minor on both counts. After reading here I'm hoping it was just dehydration because I didn't get a chance to drink as much water as I usually do. This(and a couple other similar boards) convinced me from going to the doc because if all they're going to do is tell me it's nothing, I'm not going to waste my time.
