You know people say that a heart only beats so many times per lifetime. All I can say if its true take care of yourself. I had the same situation happening to me where my heart would race, hard breathing, and anxiousness.. I've been to the dr and had a ekg, had a catheder up my groin having my heart tested, 24hr monitor, and everything else that could be done.. Everything was perfect not a thing wrong, except the fact that I would drink alot of energy drinks.. Because of the energy drinks i have came close to having a stroke or heart attack.. OH by the way Im only 28yrs old.. All I can say from experience is if your having heart problems and dr says your fine but your drinking energy drinks that is the problem.. Because of them now I suffer with Anxiety attacks/Panic attacks and trust me its not fun.. All the symptoms that you all are posting I've experienced them..

I have the exact same issue going on, what might this be caused by? and I'm not sure if any of you have tried this, but do you feel a sudden relief of pressure in your chest after you burp..if so then keep burping- it makes it momentarily better. Also, does anyone here have a history with overdose? cause me and my girlfriend both overdosed (not at the same time) once in our lives, and she believes this came about after the O.D.

any comments?

Hey guys,

I'm a 18 year old male and I also can relate to the hard pounding of the heart, visible heart beat through chest and also I noticed my heart rate to be more rapid.

I can recall when I was 14 years old I was playing basketball with some friends. Well I over exerted myself and my throat started to get this really weird sensation; almost as if someone was applying pressure to it. Right after I noticed this, my heart started to flutter. Has this happened to anyone of you guys? This has happened to me about 4 times but every time it happened, I get this feeling as if I'm gonna die. =/
So now, I'm scared to exercise.

I'm slim, and I haven't been to the doctor yet.

Also, (sorry for rambling) my family on my mothers side has had problems with the heart such as High blood pressure and irregular palpitations.

any tips?

I'm much older than most of you and have experienced skipped beats on an off most of my life without any other problems. But in early August, 2008, I too started feeling “pounding beats” but without the usual fast rate you would expect to accompany that feeling. I had an EKG 3 days ago, and wore a new type of 7 day monitor – both results showed normal rhythm, even during a bad pounding episode. The doctor didn’t have an answer but I go for a Echocardiogram next week.

I don’t give up easy. I intend to get to the bottom of this.

I am going to throw out my thoughts here which have little or no supporting scientific backing – yet. I think there may be a common element that would require everyone experiencing this to list diets, habits, etc and see if that “common element” can be found. Some possibilities are: (1) Estrogen leaching from the plastic water bottles constantly in our hands; (2) low sodium or potassium levels; (3) low calcium and magnesium levels; (4) the slow introduction of genetically modified feed in the animal food we eat. Food that we always ate in the past with no problems but now the manufacturer or farmer made a sudden (unadvertised) switch in their animal feed triggering our “sudden” symptoms that we can’t figure out why we are now having them. Items #2 & #3 above should reveal itself if you ask your doctor for a COMPLETE across the board blood test, and tell him not to skimp on the amount of tests unless you want to go back over and over again for weeks on end to find the problem. It is hard to believe with all the different doctors visited by the posters here that none of them gave a hint of the cause – this makes me think there is something new happening that has not been studied yet.

Other thoughts are – do we all eat out regularly at a specific restaurant such as Arby’s, Subway, or Boston Market? These would be food allergies that sneak up on you because they never bothered you in the past. Keeping a written log for 10-20 days of everything you put in your mouth and any pounding symptoms might reveal the culprit. Then possibly testing the source by intentionally eating, drinking, or repeating a specific food or physical exercise to see if that’s the cause. With me it seems to be tied into my digestive juices, last week I only “thought” about stopping by Subway but didn’t. A few minutes later I had a pounding episode, (and without even enjoying the sandwich) !

I picked up a few clues reading all the above posts – body position, twisting the body, energy drinks (very bad), exercise, feelings of doom… In summary, there IS a mental fear component that aggravates the pounding feeling and might make it worse, but in my opinion its normal to get scared when this sensation comes on. I do NOT think this pounding is normal and we have to put up with it. Our bodies ARE meant to run, exercise, contort, eat, drink, and not have this problem like most of us didn’t in the past. One of us will find some answers, just please post it here for all to possibly benefit from it. That’s my two cents…ur… two-hundred cents !

I'm 25 and have the same symptoms and issues with the not knowing what the hell is wrong with me, I had a n EKG and that was normal I had a bunch of bloodwork done and that all came back normal and I've b een taking zanax for almost a month which is an anti anxiety pill for those of you who don't know and guess what it doesn't help either, well i shouldn't say taht it actually does make me not worry about my heart pounding but it has no effect on the actual symptom so in my case anyway it's clearly not anxiety. Whatever it is it makes me feel likee i can't do some of the things i used to for fear of passing out I've actually put on quite a bit of wight since it started about 8 months ago as well if anybody has any suggestions I'd love to hear 'em
