Hello, I need some info regarding hemoglobin-based blood substitutes and its boost effect on the patients. My father is in the hospital due to his open heart surgery and I assume there is a chance he would be given those blood substitutes. Should I be worried? Is there anything wrong that might happen?

As far as I know, your father will not receive that kind of supplement because it is not yet proven to be as safe as required, at least in US. In fact, it even increased the risk of the heart attack occurring and as such, is still under examination and study. I think that the study showed that abut 30% of the patients that have taken those supplements showed increased heart attack risk.
