Hemophilia is the oldest known hereditary bleeding disorder. A person with Hemophilia has a problem with certain proteins in blood called clotting factors. Clotting factors are proteins in the blood that work with platelets (a type of small blood cell) to help the blood to clot. There are two main types of hemophilia: Hemophilia A and Hemophilia B. Hemophilia A: lack the blood clotting protein, factor 8, and Hemophilia B: lack factor 9. Persons with Hemophilia may bleed for a longer time than others. The main therapy for Hemophilia is “replacement therapy” – giving or replacinig the clotting factor.
