Can you tell me what are the symptoms of hernia in newborns and why is concern? I am mother of a 5 month old baby and I suspect on hernia. I am not sure what to do about it. Any info would be great.
Yes newborn can have hernias. There are inguinal and umbilical hernias. First kind appears as a bulge or swelling in the groin or scrotum. The swelling may be more noticeable when the baby cries, and get smaller or go away when the baby relaxes. Second kind; appear as a bulge or swelling in the belly-button area and the swelling may be more noticeable when the baby cries, and may get smaller or go away when the baby relaxes. Anyway I understand your concern, but it has to be diagnosed by baby physician.
