High Blood Pressure-Importance of taking medications

I can explain to my husband the importance of taking medications for high blood pressure. Every time he feels better he skips the dose. I don’t know what to do with him. Am I right? He can’t stop or lower the dose by him self?

If he has been prescribed blood pressure drugs for high blood pressure he should keep taking them unless your doctor tells him otherwise. Talk to his doctor and tell him that he should explain importance of taking medications to your husband. If, with treatment, his blood pressure is lowered and stays low, his doctor may recommend reducing the dose or even take you off medication altogether, although this is less likely. The benefits of medication for high blood pressure are not always easy to see, but he should give up.
