Hoe long to develope an Enlarged Heart

My husband died from an enlarged heart. He had a serious fall 2 years prior and suffered a Tramatic brain injury. At that time no diagnois of a enlarged heart were found. He was 48 years old. How long does it take to develope an enlarged heart. After his accident he gained 40 lbs and had high blood pressure (he was on BP medication)
