Oxytocin, a hormone that is being released during childbirth and sexual encounters, has been found to be beneficial in reducing stress. Oxytocin is the hormone that keeps the couples together, which increases when we are having good time and doesn’t decrease as much when we quarrel. This shows why we remember the good stuff and forget the bad.
When we are under a lot of stress, we produce high levels of cortisol that may lead to all sorts of physical and emotional problems.
It has been shown that high cortisol levels may be decreased by introduction of oxytocin, which is being administered in nasal sprays. Oxytocin is very important in people’s social lives, in bonding and it helps in dopamine release, neurotransmitter in the brain that is responsible for our feelings of happiness, wellness and excitement.
This is why scientists decided to do a special research on the hormone. They are hoping that these studies will make a breakthrough in managing stress and reducing conflicts. |
