How bad is Varicella meningo encephalitis?

I’ve just heard that my friend’s son has Varicella meningo encephalitis. She is terrified. I’m not sure that I really know how dangerous is this condition but I understood it’s something serious. Does anybody know something more about this? I would like to know How bad is Varicella meningo encephalitis? Thanks!

The varicella-zoster virus is responsible for chicken pox. It can sometimes cause encephalitis in adults and children. I’m sorry but I need to say to you that encephalitis caused by varicella may be very serious. Fortunately, this kind of encephalitis is very rare. The most important thing is to start with treatment on time.
