How dangerous is benzene really?

Can you tell me How dangerous is benzene really? I was told it's a substance found in cigarettes and it is a carcinogen, so I would like to know if that is the true. I guess I am starting to be afraid for my health ever since a friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer (and he smoked two times less than me!).

Well, I guess that should be a good lesson to you. Nicotine is one of the most dangerous substances (benzene including) when it comes to cancer, so I think that you should seriously start thinking about quitting. And I know that it is not that easy, but believe me it can be done. I smoked two packs a day and now I can't even stand cigarette smoke!
