Hello! My grandmother has a cataract on her left eye. She is capable to do all her activities completely. She says she feels occasionally some symptoms like loss of contrast, double vision and poor night vision especially when there are headlights. But she says she is satisfied with her vision in most cases. I think she should have a surgery How dangerous is not treating cataract?

Hello! Cataract is a painless clouding of the lens of the eye and it generally develops over a long period of time. If untreated it worsens the eyesight and can eventually lead to blindness. Cataracts are common in older people and they are usually treated with surgery, but not all people need to have them removed. If the loss in vision is mild enough to get along fine with glasses or contact lenses the surgery is not needed. Your grandmother should consider treatment if her vision becomes noticeably worse which may interfere with her everyday activities.
