How do I prepare for the lipoprotein analysis?

I have certain health problems. My doctor told me that I probably will need to do the lipoprotein analysis. I understood that this test measures the total amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Am I right? Somebody with experience tell me How do I prepare for the lipoprotein analysis? Thank you!

Lipoprotein analysis measures blood levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. If you need to do this test, do not eat or drink anything except water for 9 to 12 hours before having your blood drawn. I think that you may take your medication that morning but you should tell that to professional.
