Hi! I Have PKD (kidney disease). Sometimes I want to drink some glasswine. But, I don’t know how my alcohol intake affects on my kindness. I also know that red wine may help to reduce risk of heart disease. How can alcohol affect my kidneys?
Hi! I was interested about same thing as you. There have any not studies looking at alcohol’s effects on the progression of PKD. Alcohol can increase your chance of developing high blood pressure, which is known to accelerate the decline in kidney function in PKD. If you already have high blood pressure, alcohol can interfere with your medications and make it harder to control your blood pressure. High blood pressure is more likely to damage your kidneys. Regular alcohol consumption can damage kidney function. Most people with PKD who are otherwise healthy can enjoy the occasional social drink. But, be careful no more than one drinks a day. I also drink one glass of red wine a day, and I don’t have any problem with this alcohol intake.
