How is aplastic anemia related to chloramphenicol?

I heard that chloramphenicol can cause aplastic anemia and that it can be very dangerous. Is it a truth? I know that chloramphenicol is not so safe drug and that it may cause many damages but aplastic anemia. It’s too much. Tell me how is aplastic anemia related to chloramphenicol?

As I know, the most serious side effect of chloramphenicol treatment is aplastic anaemia. It can be fatal but it’s very rare. The problem is that there is no way of predicting who may or may not get this side effect. The effect usually occurs weeks or months after chloramphenicol treatment.

How is aplastic anemia related to chloramphenicol?
