How long can a human last without Food?

How long can the human body last without food? Is there a general rule or it depends of the person. Does anyone know that? What is more dangerous, to be without water or a food?

I think that everyone is different, but in general terms it is far more dangerous to go without water for days than food. Absolute dehydration can cause the kidneys to shut down and death to occur in less than a week. It can be quite amazing just how long people can survive with a minimal food intake. See anorexic people, they are a good example here. If the body is deprived of food, it uses itself as energy and so fat and then muscle is broken down to be converted into energy. However, it is important not to stop eating for any length of time and to always maintain a balanced diet.
