I had unprotected sex with an infected person. I wasn’t using a condom…. I don’t know what I was thinking. I guess I never thought I would catch STD. I found out not, three weeks after, that that person has hepatitis B virus. I haven’t been to doctor, because I don’t have any symptoms and I was praying that I didn’t catch it. Anyway I would like to know how long it takes to have symptoms of hepatitis. Thanks.

Sometimes a person with HBV infection has no symptoms at all, but if symptoms occur, they occur on the average of 12 weeks after exposure to hepatitis B virus. They occur in about 70% of patients. You might be infected with HBV and not know it for along time, so it is important for you to check. If you have symptoms, they might include: nausea, yellowing of the whites of your eyes, joint pain, abdominal discomfort….
